Since 1887
Top Quality Beef is our Number 1 Priority
The Shaw Ranch is a Colorado Centennial Ranch, homesteaded in 1887. We take pride in our land, care deeply for our animals, and are passionate about producing superior quality beef for your family. We have been faithful stewards of our land and livestock for over 135 years and 5 generations.
Our ranch is located in northeastern Colorado's Yuma County, one of the leading beef-producing regions of our state. The ranch's sandhill and shortgrass prairies are naturally suited to grazing, and our herds spend their entire lives surrounded by vibrant native grasslands. The Shaw Ranch is protected from development by a conservation easement held by The Nature Conservancy; we believe in utilizing our natural resources using the most sustainable methods to benefit the land, our cattle, and the abundant wildlife and plant communities that live here.
Our family has spent decades raising, selecting, and cultivating cattle adapted for production in the unique environment of the ranch. We raise Red Angus cattle for their excellent meat quality and highly maternal traits; we practice low-stress, ethical handling of the cattle which depend on us for their care. Calves are born in May and June each year, which we feel best aligns with our seasonal cycles versus winter calving. After spending their entire lives on our native grassland, our direct sale cattle are finished with premium alfalfa hay and locally raised grain for 90 days, imparting a delicious, healthy, and hearty flavor profile.
We have just recieved a rating from Top Dollar Angus that our herd is in the top 1% for carcass genetics. This recognition comes from decades of selection for meat quality.
